Hiring veterans and retaining veterans is hard enough. We can help you by helping you establish and maintain what we like to call the business resource group or BRG, especially for veterans in your business.

A lot of businesses call them a BRG. Some of them call it an ERG, employee resource group. A few even call it a veteran support group. We discourage people from using the word support group because that carries a connotation that something negative has happened and that support is needed to help people overcome some obstacle or something in their past. And that is not at all what a veterans BRG is designed to do.

Rather, a veterans business resource group is designed to help the veterans in your team, in your company, your business, your corporation identify the other veterans who they work with on a day-to-day basis. They may not know all each other especially if they work in different sections are on different parts of the team.

But most critically the veterans BRG helps those veterans help each other. They may have issues that they want to talk about just because the veterans understand each other, and it’s critical that your veteran BRG meet often enough that those veterans can support each other. You might also include in your veterans BRG veteran spouses. You might also include people whose parents were veterans or who have children who currently are serving or who are veterans themselves, brothers or sisters, aunts, uncles. That kind of thing is welcome.

You might also have a BRG in your company for disabled persons. You might have a BRG for female employees. What we’re talking about is the veterans BRG because it is the single most important part, once your veterans are on-boarded and part of your team, in keeping them happy, satisfied, and feeling like they are part of something bigger than themselves.

Remember, veterans want to help you and your bottom line, and veterans want to accomplish the mission. Helping them do that and helping you help them do that is what we here at Vetted Employers are all about. We hope to talk to you again very soon. Welcome to Vetted Employers.
