So, your website says that you’re veteran friendly or veteran ready and you’re still not attracting veterans. Here’s what we can do to help.
In a previous video, we talked about how companies attracting veterans need to be more than veteran ready or veteran friendly because those terms really don’t mean very much. What you want to be is veteran preferred.
So, how do you do that? Well, I’m here today to give you a little bit more insight into that. You know, the federal government and most state governments, when they’re looking to hire veterans, they make it easy for veterans to come to work for them. By making it easy, they perhaps will award them special points on entrance exams to be able to work for the state or for the local government or for the federal government. Perhaps they give them some sort of veteran preferential treatment during the application process.
There are a lot of different ways that you, as an employer, can make veterans feel welcome to come to your company. Maybe on your website, when it asks someone for their application information to begin the process, maybe you have a special button on there that says, “If you are a veteran, click here.” And it takes them to a streamlined, ready-to-go application process online that will make them feel that they have earned something special because that they are a veteran.
Now, this by no means indicates that you should treat them any better or any worse than anybody else who is a prospective employee. But, it does give them a way to feel like your company wants to make veterans their preferred employees.
And remember, happy veterans on your payroll will attract other veterans. Veterans want to accomplish the mission and in this case, the mission is getting hired by you and then helping you to your bottom line.
We here at Vetted Employers are happy to help you go through that entire process. Have a great day and we’ll talk to you again very soon. This is Bruce Townson for Vetted Employers.
